The Finnish Library Association is a non-profit organisation that promotes the status of public libraries. Our members include library users and professionals who work at libraries.
We produce new and topical information regarding libraries and inform politicians about the importance of supporting libraries. We also organise events and train professionals in the field.
We publish the Kirjastolehti journal and organise the largest professional event in the library sector, Kirjastopäivät (Library Days). In addition, we coordinate the Kirjaston päivä (Library Day) event, which is held on 19 March each year.
Our working groups provide professionals with opportunities for networking, learning and developing their professional expertise.
Anyone interested in libraries can join the association. Both private persons and communities are welcome.
The Finnish Library Association is also an active member of the international organisations IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) and EBLIDA (European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations).
